Hi, I’m Kelly, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who supports people on their road to recovery. I have experience in various levels of eating disorder care and would love to work alongside you through your eating disorder recovery journey. I specialize in eating disorders, disordered eating, eating disorder recovery meal plans, mindful eating, and sustainable behavior change. Kelly Powers, MA, RDN is a Registered Dietitian and Bay Area Culinary Nutritionist with a Master’s Degree in Food Studies. She takes a holistic approach to nutrition and health, helping her clients implement sustainable behavior change to improve their life and relationship with food.

Kelly completed her graduate degree in Rome, Italy, where she immersed herself in Italian food culture. Her time and experience abroad greatly impacted her work. She’s now on a mission to bring Italian food culture to those who are battling an eating disorder or living with disordered eating.

Prior to living in Rome, Kelly served as a lead dietitian at a residential ED clinic where both residential and PHP treatment for anorexia nervosa and binge eating disorder were offered. Kelly now offers online nutrition sessions and in-person support to those doing the hard work of healing from their ED.

Please note I work with clients who are medically stable and appropriate for an outpatient level of care. I work with clients who have a treatment team that includes a medical doctor and an eating disorder therapist.

50-minute individual counseling initial session: $220

30-minute individual counseling follow-up session: $130

1-hour in-home cooking lesson for recovery: $300

1-hour grocery shopping trip for recovery: $300

What Are the Common Signs and Symptoms of Eating Disorders?

People engage in different eating disorder behaviors at varying degrees, thus there is wide array of signs an symptoms of eating disorders. One persons eating disorder can present very differently than another persons. However, there are some common signs and symptoms, including preoccupation with weight, food, calories, carbohydrates, fat grams, and dieting; refusal to eat certain foods or entire food groups; appears uncomfortable eating around others; food rituals; skipping meals or taking small portions; withdrawal from usual friends and activities; extreme concern with body size and shape; extreme mood swings; noticeable fluctuations in weight, both up and down; stomach cramps, other non-specific gastrointestinal complaints; menstrual irregularities; difficulty concentrating; abnormal laboratory findings; dizziness, especially upon standing; feeling cold all the time; dry skin and hair, and brittle nails; fine hair on body; cavities, or discoloration of teeth, from vomiting; poor wound healing; dramatic weight loss; evidence of binge eating; evidence of purging behaviors; feelings of low self-esteem; and more. I help clients nourish their bodies and make peace with food while building a positive and caring relationship with themselves. In my practice, I strive to treat each client individually by taking their unique and personal experiences into account. My work is evidence based, practical, and relational. I work with clients to create a safe space where they can process, cultivate self-compassion, and change their relationship with food.

How Long Does Treatment for an Eating Disorder Usually Take?

Length of treatment is highly personaized and it varies person to person. Some factors that can influence treatment length include duration and severity of the eating disorder, stage of change, and support and treatment available. Though recovery from an eating disorder is possible, treatment is not linear and duration is not set.
